Why would we want to annotate a video?

1) To add new information to a video
If the video is promoting a product and receiving a lot of traffic…yet perhaps that product itself is no longer available, we wouldn’t want to necessarily remove it. Maybe we want to redirect to another video on YouTube.

2) Add a link to a video or to an entire channel on YouTube.
This gives a way for viewers to move to the next video in a series.

3) Direct viewers to a related video.

4) Lead viewers to another of your YouTube channels.
Note that you cannot link to a URL that lives outside of YouTube.
